In April 2016, I visited Hallerbos also known as The Blue Forest.
I had never been before, but had seen many pictures online. Living nearby, I decided to check it out.
Historically, the Hallerbos was part of the Silva Carbonaria, along with other forests in the vicinity, such as the Sonian Forest and Meerdal.
The forest itself spans over 500ha and is located in Flemish Brabant, near Brussels (Belgium). It's open to the public and has special trails for cyclists and horses. It's an amazing area to spend the day.
The forest is world famous for its extensive carpets of blue flowers that cover the forest floor. April and May are the blooming periods of these bluebells. That's usually when the forest is busiest. Even outside the blooming period, the forest is still a nice visit. There are plenty of different trails to follow and plenty of things to see, even wildlife.
